New dental technologies to help monitor if your teeth are wearing away

Tooth wear and dental acid erosion damage are very common issues that we see in our patients’ teeth.
Most commonly our patients are completely unaware that they are losing their tooth structure and causing irreversible damage to their teeth.
A common factor in tooth wear is acid erosion, which can stem from either internal or external sources. Internal sources of acid can be from medical conditions like gastric reflux diseases, hiatus hernias and indigestion.
Some of these internal acid regurgitations can commonly also be linked to other medical conditions like airway obstructions and sleep disturbances.
External sources of acid are most commonly dietary like citrus juices, carbonated drinks and alcoholic beverages.
The new digital software from 3 Shape “Patient Monitoring” allows precise measurement of any tooth loss like we have never be able to before.
We can measure and inform our patients of tooth loss before it becomes a major problem and allow us to discuss minimal and conservative treatment options.
