Understanding the Steps to a Straighter Smile with Invisalign
Invisalign treatment takes place within a few, easy to understand steps, the first of which is to book a consultation with our Invisalign trained dentists at Sparkle Dental.
Step One – Complimentary Assessment
Your complimentary assessment is to see if you are suitable for Invisalign. We’ll take the time to discuss your case in detail with you, and this is an excellent chance to ask any additional questions you may have about Invisalign, including the approximate costs involved with your particular case. Costs can vary according to the complexity of the treatment, and the number of aligners. You will also need a thorough dental examination to ensure you do not have any signs of active dental diseases, as we need your mouth to be completely healthy before treatment begins.
Step Two – Planning Your Treatment
The next step is to actually plan your treatment. This is done through taking photos, impressions, x-rays and photos of your teeth which are used by Invisalign to create a 3-D image of your mouth. This allows us design an accurate treatment plan which will show precisely how your teeth will move into their new positions. This process is called the ClinCheck® set up. The beauty of this system is that you’ll get a sneak preview of how your new smile will look, as you’ll be able to see a virtual representation of your teeth before, during, and at the completion of treatment. Once you’re happy with the ClinCheck® treatment plan, and once it has been approved by our dentist, then you can look forward to receiving your new aligners.
Step Three – Receiving Your Custom-made Aligners
Your aligners are constructed to follow the different stages of the treatment plan. All you have to do is pop them in your mouth, as they will fit snugly over your teeth, and should be comfortable to wear. Every two weeks you replace the aligners with a fresh set, so your teeth are gradually being moved into their new positions in exactly the way shown in ClinCheck®. The exact number of aligners required will vary from case to case, and can range from between 18 and 36 for full treatment. The duration of treatment also varies from between 9 and 18 months.
Step Four – Occasional Checkups
We will provide you with several sets of aligners, but will still want to see you at regular intervals, usually only every six weeks or so. This is necessary as we will want to check your progress. You may take your aligners out for eating, drinking and cleaning, but you do need to wear them for approximately twenty to twenty two hours each day for the treatment to be effective within the time span predicted at the start of treatment. The end result should be a beautifully straight and healthy smile.
Step Five – Maintaining Your New Smile with Vivera® Retainers
Once treatment is completed we will need to take steps to ensure your smile lasts for many years to come, and this includes the use of retainers which need to be worn while you are asleep. Retainers are vitally important in maintaining a newly straightened smile, as studies have shown that without them teeth will gradually revert back to their original position. This will occur regardless of the method of orthodontic treatment chosen. Luckily there's an easy solution, as wearing Vivera® retainers will help protect your smile.
These retainers are custom-made and are supplied in sets of three. As with all Invisalign appliances, Vivera retainers are fabricated using the most advanced 3-D digital imaging and are made from clear thermoplastic material. You'll find these retainers are nearly invisible, and are very strong. They are fully customised to give a comfortable fit, and will only need changing every few months.
