The thing I enjoy most about work is:
Helping patients deal with their dental anxieties while still receiving the best dental care has become one of the most rewarding parts of my role as a dentist at Sparkle Dental. It brings a smile to my face when I think of the all the patients I have been able to help with the spectrum of sedation options we have available. For example using nitrous or ‘laughing’ gas to help uncertain children get through their first filling, or using twilight sedation to help a ‘dental phobic’ adult who has been avoiding the dentist for years. However even better that all of that is when the patients return in the future, free of the anxiety and feeling relaxed and comfortable in the dental chair.
Favourite aspect of dentistry:
Helping patients achieve things they never knew possible with their teeth & oral health. For example I have a special interest in helping adults with crowded or malaligned teeth achieve fantastic new smiles using Invisalign which is a clear, non-visible way of straightening teeth without the need for braces. The excitement these patients have about getting the smile they have always wanted is so great to see.
Continuing education highlights:
To aid my knowledge in treating anxious patients I have recently completed a course run by DOCS (USA), one of the world leaders in dental sedation dentistry education. I am also a member of the Perth Chapter of the Seattle Study Club (which facilitates discussion between dentists and specialists in the dental field) and the federal and state divisions of the Australian Dental Association.
